Dominican Republic makes most textiles export thanks to CAFTA

Last decade or so has been the most eventful for the stamp size nation Dominican Republic that bolstered its fortunes through the exports of textiles and garments to the US.
Today, trade balance has titled heavily in DR's favor to the tune of US $9,673 million according to US International Commerce Commission (USITC).
For the period 1996 to 2005, Dominican Republic has exported textile products worth $22,206 million to the United States.
Although it has imported $12,533 million from the US, yet, it signifies a clear 77 percent tilt in DR's favor.
DR exports cotton articles, synthetic fiber articles, brassieres, socks, wool articles and other articles while it imports sewing thread, visible linings and narrow elastic from the US.
Meantime, Juan Guiliani Cury, Under Secretary Foreign Economic Relations clarified that Mexico too has immense potential in getting a comprehensive trade agreement signed with DR to gain access to the US markets for its textiles and apparel products.
