Textile exports up 4%, garment exports down 2%

Textile exports in 2005 reached 1.67 billion euro or US $2.14 billion, representing a four percent rise over 2004, with around 84 percent of the products exported to the Europe, key countries being Greece, Italy, Germany and France.

However, Association of Apparel and Textile Producers and Exporters reported that the clothing and garment exports dropped about two percent.

Textile and clothing imports were estimated last year at 1.3 billion euro or $1.67 billion, mostly from EU countries.

Exports to top market, Europe, grew two percent, while that to Turkey and the US, second and third largest markets, declined nearly 18 and 37 percent, respectively.
