Till end of the first week June 2006, textile and apparel exports to the US saw “hot” atmosphere, as performance of quota controlled – categories continued to maintain high growth in both terms of volume and value, Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (Vitas) said.
There will be at least nine categories to fulfill their quota funds before Vietnam will officially join WTO by yearend.
However, made–in–Vietnam apparel products face less competition in terms of price than same goods of other countries, such as Bangladesh, India, China and Indonesia.
Since wrapping up bilateral negotiation with US for entering WTO, Vietnam's textile and apparel industry has attracted interest of lot of foreign investors, especially ones from US.
Last week, US - based apparel giant ITG signed contract with Phong Phu Textile Company to construct a textile and apparel complex – the most modern complex in Vietnam to manufacture high-class cotton products.
