Textile exports from China have threatened the industry in Peru as import value of supplies during the last six months from the Mainland have exceeded total import value of 2003.
Refering to disloyal competition from China, Eduardo Farah Hayn, Chairman, National Society of Industries (SNI - Sociedad Nacional de Industrias) states in his address that, "For example, the product imports coming from China have been increased 340 percent, mainly in articles like dresses and footwear, that resulted in a fall of 6 percent and 39 percent in the local production, which has been compensated partly by the greater exports. These imports between January and April of this year have surpassed the total of year 2003."
Major products in the import list are clothing and textile, of which prices are even below the cost of raw materials available in Peru.
Hayn added that the Government should take strong actions against these imports by imposing anti-dumping duties on Chinese goods.
