Government's clean cotton programme, setting up of textile city in Karachi and garment cites in Lahore, Faisalabad and Karachi besides amenable labour laws also contributed to the development of textile sector along with setting up a separate Minister of Textile to drive the sector forward in a focused manner.

Bed wear exports went up by 58 percent, readymade garments 31 percent, fabrics 16 percent, towels 12 percent, yarn 11 percent and knitwear (hosiery) 4 percent during 2005-06.
