Apparel exporters anxiously wait for larger US orders

Most Vietnamese apparel enterprises are waiting for US orders for 2007 Spring-Summer goods as the consumer contact information with the traders is limited and the signed contracts are also for small quantities.

“This situation is unusual since in previous years it is now a starting time for transactions and contracts of such goods in order for beginning productions in early September”, officials of an enterprise revealed.

Chairman of Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (Vitas) Le Quoc An explained the reason for that is the US pondering over imposition of quotas on Vietnam in 2007 like the ones used for China.

Additionally, the US customers are mulling over Vietnamese Ministry of Trade (MOT's) measures of exporting the goods as export quota of the goods to that country will get exhausted by the year end.

“They are fearful of goods getting jammed after signing contracts similar to what had happened to China,” An rounded off.
