Textile export crosses Rs13,000crore mark in two months

India's textile exports increased 17.9 percent to 13,352 crore in the first two months of this fiscal.

In April 2006, textile exports registered 21.04 percent growth to reach Rs6,867 crore compared to Rs5,673 crore in same period last year and in May, exports grew 14.24 percent to Rs6,485 crore from Rs5,651 crore corresponding period last year, informed Quaiser Shamim, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Textiles at inaugural ceremony of 37th India International Garment Fair.

As per the estimates made by Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics (DGCIS), garment exports in June rose 13.3 percent to Rs3,313 crore.

During the International Garment Fair, held twice a year, $125 million business is expected, informed Vijay Aggrawal, Chairman Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC).
