In first six months of the 2006, country's shoe exports fell 8 percent to US $910 million as compared to $921.4 million same period last year, informed Brazilian Association of Shoe Manufacturers.

This fall in exports is due to appreciation of Brazilian real against the US dollar.

US is the largest importer of Brazilian shoes as the giant market imports about 37.7 million pairs worth $424.5 million.

Other major export destination is UK, which imports around 10.7 million pairs worth $179.3 million. Countries like Italy, Spain and Argentina also place bulk orders of shoes.
