In the first five months of 2006, Vietnam's exports turnover of towels pulled in US $40.3 million representing a growth of 8 percent in comparison with same period 2005, Vietnamese General Custom department reported.
Cotton-towels take the first spot with $27.5 million (rise of 11 percent) worth of exports, followed by fur-towel and antique table–cloth and others at $7.6 million and $3.47 million, though recording year-on-year drop of 2.5 and 8 percent, respectively.
Reportedly, Japan is the top market for these products, among all the importing countries including the US, Korea, Thailand, EU and Taiwan.
In the first half this year, Japan spent $14 million and $2.27 million on importing cotton and fur towels, respectively.
From January to May 2006, exports turnover to the US market reached over $14 million, with an annual leap of 56 percent, of which cotton towels hit $8.257 million mark recording year–on–year surge of 166 percent.
Cotton towels are major goods exported to Korea in this period accounting for 97 percent of total exports turnover of $3.2 million.
Mean while, the figures of the EU market represented sharp decline at 35 percent, attracting only $2.8 million.
