In 2005 textile and apparel exports climbed to 70,272 tons representing 26.3 percent year-on-year rise, which broke the lull of past several months.
However, exports seem to have weakened in the first half of 2006, adversely affected by competitive pressures from Asian giants like China, India, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
In the second quarter, the exports recorded a drop of 14.74 percent, with 20.3 and 12.5 percent fall in the months of April and May.
Decline in the month of June was pegged at 10.9 percent.
