Govt to announce new export policy

Export policy for the period between fiscal 2006-07 and 2008-09 is to be finalized by the Commerce Ministry.

This will be examined by the cabinet committee on economic affairs, informed sources.

Proposed export policy will be effective from current month as previous policy has been expired on June 30, 2006.

Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) has sent proposal along with suggestions from leading exporters to the Commerce Ministry.

Commerce Ministry has taken advices from trade bodies, banks, and Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority, National Board of Revenue and concerned exporters while formulating the policy.

Specialized export-import bank, withdrawal of all types of value added tax for utility services, tax holidays, lower rate credit facility for export oriented industries were the main recommendations received by the Commerce Ministry.

Commerce Ministry wants to sort out trade deficit problem which is rising year by year.
