Bangladesh has registered an impressive export growth in financial year, 2005 with figures of US $10.5 billion, the highest earning ever recorded in a fiscal year.
This achievement is especially significant with the fact that the experts had aired their fears of a backlash in the face of quota abolition in the textile sector. Experts were left clueless as the garment sector, the country's chief exporting product showing tremendous figures.
Some non-conventional items like agro-goods, handicrafts have also recorded positive trends.
Various factors have contributed in this surge with Government facilitating the upliftment of Chittagong port but it needs to do more to further encourage the same.
The growth of textile and garments has raised the hopes of revival of jute industry as there has been an increase in the demand for the jute items as well.
Government owned mills which have been closed down due to deficits can be revived to meet the increased demand in the sector.
Exporters have submitted certain proposals to the Government to encourage the export sector including the proposal to provide better electric facilities at the concession rates to export oriented industries.
