Japanese entrepreneurs have shown keenness in segments like jewelry and leather possessing the required knowledge to start business at SEZs, in states like Maharashtra and Karnataka.
In the bilateral trade, Japanese industries ardor in sectors like leather and textiles manufacturing, food processing and IT.
Japanese small and medium enterprises would also play an important role in the Indo-Japanese relationship.
In the next couple of years, it is expected that bilateral trade relations between the two countries will grow from US $5 billion in 2004 to $10 billion.
In states like Maharashtra, Haryana, and Tamil Nadu the number of Japanese companies present are 72, 55, and 37 respectively while in West Bengal it would grow from the present 15 due to favorable industrial scenario in the state.
Japanese companies' presence in India rose from 231 in 2003 to 328 in January 2006.
