Considering the overdependence on Chinese shoe imports and its related risks, Japan plans to form a strategic partnership with Thailand and to set up footwear factories there.
Confirming the fact, Chantra Purnariksha, Director General, Export Promotion Department informed that to overcome Chinese supremacy, Government was pondering over the establishment of several factories across the Asia including Thailand.
This will also help Japan in minimizing risk of supply shortage if imports from China were delayed.
The partnership will create a win-win situation as Japanese investment will increase Thailand's footwear-export industry as well as its share in the market, she added.
The Japan-Thailand Economic Partnership Agreement, which is on the way, will also help increase Japanese investment in Thailand.
