Chennimalai, famous for powerlooms and handlooms, exports wide range of towels, screen clothes, bedsheets, and bedspreads to the US.
The US imported bedsheets, bedspreads, hall and window screens and towels designed with Christmas trees, Santa Claus and children lighting candles, worth Rs2 crore from Chennimalai during Christmas festival.
Inspired by positive response of last year, Chennimalai powerloom weavers have started producing goods for this year's Christmas with embellished design and unique colour combinations.
Powerloom owners not willing to disclose the design as others will start copying it to spoil their business.
As Christmas nears, weavers will get more and more orders, informed Powerloom Weavers Association President V N Swaminathan.
Swaminathan expects that this year weavers will get orders worth Rs3 crore from the US.
