Vietnamese footwear industry is gaining ground in Brazil along with its existing export destinations such as the US, Canada and Mexico.
Vietnamese footwear exports to Brazil increased 98 percent in July 2006 compared to same period last year, while in first seven months it contributed revenue of $16.85 million.
Brazil imported 880.93 thousand pairs, up 57 percent, worth $11.85 million; this shows an increase of 185.55 percent in first six months this year.
Brazil imported 207,945 pairs of tanned leather–capped sports shoes worth $3.99 million, while tennis and basket ball shoes import increased 77.83 percent and 50.22 percent respectively.
