Pakistan is getting lowest prices for textile exports to the US and EU compared to prices given to other Asian countries like India, China and Bangladesh, revealed UNDP's 'Asia-Pacific Development Report 2006'.
According to the report, Pakistan is getting $5.38 per kg while its rival countries like China, India and Bangladesh get $9.85, $8.60 and $8.67 per kg respectively.
In 2005, Pakistan has exported textile and clothing worth $1 billion to the US and European Union.
Though prices of Pakistani textile products are lower, country could not reap benefits of quota free regime where India and China have captured remarkable market share with better prices.
Even the Bangladesh, where prices of products are high, has registered 2.3 percent and 4.2 percent growth in terms of value and volume respectively.
In 2005, Pakistan exported 1 billion kg of products worth $5.39 billion while Bangladesh exported 805 million kg worth $6.99 billion during same period; this clearly shows that Bangladesh exported less products and earned more revenue while for Pakistan situation is reverse.
