Trade deficit increases due to rising import

Trade balance of Estonia registered a slide of 3.7 billion kroons an increase of 0.6 billion kroons compared to last month. The trade deficit in the previous year was 2.5 billion kroons.

Total foreign trade was valued at 24.3 billion kroon in June, a rise of 3 percent compared to last month. Import was 58 percent of the total foreign trade shooting up 5 percent monthly to 14 billion kroons and was up 33 percent from last year.

Share of European Union (EU) in Estonian exports accounted for 64 percent, a decrease of 15 percent compared to 79 percent the previous year. Major export markets for Estonia were Finland, Sweden and United States.

Notable growth was registered in the export of leather and leather articles, machinery and machinery equipment while the export of textiles slid in huge chunk.
