Footwear material supply from Korea surges 45.83%

Korea is the second largest footwear material supplier to Vietnam for tanned leather and canvas, according to an industrial source.

In July, 2006 footwear material supply from Korea climbed 45.83 percent to $22 million compared to same period last year.

During the first six months of this year, Korea exported footwear material worth $153.1 million to Vietnam, up 17.38 percent compared to period in consideration.

Vietnam imported tanned leather of cowhide, kid, pigskin and sheepskin from Korea worth $50.25 million, increased 80.06 percent during January – July 2006.

Though, Korean leathers are costlier than those available in other countries on an average of $0.3 – 0.45 /square feet, it is in high demand because of its better quality.

On the other hand, imports of synthetic leather dropped 5.97 percent to $26.45 million in first half this year compared to period in consideration.

Among the synthetic leather, Pu leather and man–made witnessed drastic downfall of 84 and 32 percent respectively.
