Growing retail market of textile and apparel in Norway led to an increase of imports in the first half of 2006. Imports of apparel increased 7.8 percent to 33,572 tons and China turning out to be the biggest supplier with a volume of 17,326 tons.
Imports from other countries saw a steep surge as well with imports from Bangladesh increasing 16.2 percent to 2,065 tons while India shipped 1,270 tons, an increase of 16.1 percent. Turkey, Italy, Hong Kong and Sweden were the other top suppliers.
The import of yarn and fabric shot up to 55,870 tons, an increase of 14.4 percent with no country in particular dominating the show; however, China was again the biggest supplier with export of 9,250 tons a modest increase of 8.2 percent.
United Kingdom stood second with export of 5,800 tons, an increase of 139.6 percent.
Germany, India, Netherlands and Pakistan were the other main suppliers.
