Mauritius, an island nation in the southwest Indian Ocean, has planned to sign a preferential trade agreement on the export of textiles and rum with India, bringing to the logical end the negotiations, which started in 2005 and likely to culminate in New Delhi next month.
Under the agreement, Mauritius would be able to sell an additional two million pieces of clothes to India, which will be made using the Indian thread.
India, which contributes to 70 percent of Mauritian demography, has already approved $100mn to enable the importation of expertise and equipment from India.
Moreover, the agreement also envisages an increase in rum exports from 50000l to 150000l.
