US Customs and Border Protection Department (CBP) recently announced that one million pieces of Chinese ready-made clothes were tracked down that had been imported using fake certificate of origin to evade textile quota.
It is the first big 'illegal shipment case' announced by the US Customs and included $14 million worth of sporting clothes and shirts, but the trader's name and specifics were not disclosed.
According to the Sino-US textile agreement, 21 product categories fall under import quota limit.
To avoid this duty, several manufacturers export goods via third country and this transshipment is emerging as a major problem.
However, once verified, such product's quota will be deducted 300 percent.
