Exports surge 26.42%

Following the better performance by leather, woven garment, knitwear and home textile, Bangladesh' exports rose 23.42 percent to US $1.143 billion in first month of fiscal 2006-07.

However, exports were slightly less than expected figure of $1.152 billion, according to statistics released by Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).

In July, woven products exports grew 24.57 percent with an earning of $451.91 million while knitwear export soared 31.19 percent to $452.95.

Bangladesh is the largest exporter of garment and export target for woven garment has been raised, informed Fazlul Haq, president of Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA).
