Japan is planning to continue the negotiations with Vietnam early next year on concluding free trade agreements (FTA).

Preparations are underway for the new Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to hold the talks with Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, who is scheduled to visit Japan in mid-October.

Japan mainly exports products like machinery, steel and auto parts, while imports from Vietnam include fisheries products, garments and electric cables.

Japan, the No. 1 investor in Vietnam, had US $7.05 billion trade in 2004 with Vietnam.
