Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's four-day trip to South Africa is a move to strengthen trade relations and re-energize old ties between the two nations.
Singh held talks with South African President Thabo Mbeki on a variety of issues in order to bolster bilateral relations.
Under negotiations is a proposed Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) with the five-nation South African Customs Union (SACU) which could be materialized if the talks on the issue are completed.
