During the period of January – August 2006, Macao's total value of imports grew 23.2 percent year-on-year, mainly due to the increase in the value of imports by broad economic categories, namely Fuels & lubricants (40.5 percent), Consumer goods (26.2 percent), Raw materials & semi-manufactures (20.0 percent) and Capital goods (13.9 percent).

Meanwhile, Macao's main suppliers of imported goods still concentrated in the Asian region. Imports from Mainland China and Hong Kong, which together constituted 55.6 percent of the total value of imports, rose 33.1 percent and 26.9 percent respectively compared with the same period of 2005.
