Products like Nakshi Katha, dry flower, handmade quilt, jute bag, bed cover, etc have a great export potential. What stops export of these goods and earning of foreign currency is the lack of knowledge of export procedures among women entrepreneurs.
For instance, Rina Rahman of Orchadia participated in many trade fairs abroad where she got orders for large volumes, but she could not do business with foreign buyers due to lack of knowledge of export procedures.
Most of the small women entrepreneurs like Rina Rahman do not know the basics of export, while those who export send their products abroad through personal network. Nilufar Haque of Shelly's Collection exported jute bags and bed covers to Malaysia, China and Bangkok through personal contacts.
Recently, Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) organised an Eid fair for women entrepreneurs to enhance their product familiarization in various areas. DCCI is now imparting export-related training to them at low costs.
Women entrepreneurs have to be more educated about international markets to implement exports, according to Nasreen Awal Mintoo, president of Women Entrepreneurs Association of Bangladesh (WEAB).
