Knitwear export growth doubles that of woven clothes

Export growth of knitwear nearly doubled that of woven clothes in January-August 2006, according to China's Customs.

Knitwear export hit US $25.39 billion during the period, gaining 44.4 percent from the same time in 2005, while woven clothes export valued at $26.99 billion, rising only 22.5 percent, though the export amount registered higher than knitwear.

Among the top five exporting provinces and city, Guangdong posted a fastest growth in export. During the same period, apparel and accessories exported from Guangdong marked $12.3 billion, jumping up 77.6 percent, accounting for 29 percent of the overall apparel export value in the country.

The following four exporting provinces and city were Zhejing, Jiangsu, Shanghai and Shandong, posting an average growth of around 8 to 18 percent.
