Indian textiles face competition from China

According to industry experts, China is only a competitor and does not pose any threat to Indian industry.

India registered a growth of around 27 percent to European market in exports and 13 percent increase in exports to US.

While China registered a growth of 12 percent increase in exports to European Union and 6.5 percent increase in exports to US after lifting of quota restrictions.

India is trying to achieve the target of $21 billion of textile exports in 2006-07 from current $19.7 billion.

Most of the textile industry's trade with China is due to increasing export of cotton bales.

Last year 3.5 million bales of cotton were exported to China from total exports of 4.7 million bales.
