A decline of 10 percent in imports of second-hand clothes from USA, Europe, Japan, Korea and Poland for the first ten months of 2006 has been registered compared to same period of previous year.

Due to competitive international prices and five percent import duty, the volume of import declined and remained around 15 percent. The second hand cloths consumption also reduced by 10 percent to Rs400 million due to single digit inflation, cheaper local garment and increasing cost of living in the country.

The import of second hand clothes comes from Korea, Japan China USA, UK and Japan. These imports includes blankets, carpets, rugs, shoes, overcoats, jackets, cloth made toys, European shirts, trousers, sweeter and pullovers etc.

Prices increased from five percent to eight percent in all kind of secondhand clothing, draperies, blankets, sundries and shoes in Lunda Bazaars.

Sales of soft and daily consumable items remain 55 percent of total imports round the year and warm clothing remain 45 percent of total import lifted in cold zones during period of July to December every year.
