India is estimated to export 4.5 to 5 million bales for the year ended September 2006 as it produced 24.2 million bales of cotton for the year 2005-2006.
For the crop year 2006-2007, harvesting of most of the region is over, except in certain parts of Gujarat, Punjab and Madhya Pradesh.
Traders are hoping for an export of 3.5 million from Gujarat alone and are expecting bulk orders from China, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Korea and Thailand.
Price of cotton has already increased to 18,000 rupees ($402.59) per candy compared to 17,500 rupees per candy for previous year.
This year many buyers are interested in organic cotton but organic cotton is only three percent of country's overall cotton production.
