Footwear materials account for 15% of total imports

During January-September, 2006, import of footwear material from China accounted 15 percent of total import turnover of the country, as industry imported worth $154 million footwear materials from China at an increasing rate of 3.7 percent compared to same period of previous year.

Experts projected figures of imported footwear material from China for fourth quarter of current year to surpass $40 million and to attain turnover of $200 million for whole year at 2 percent surge than last year.

In September, there was an increase in import of materials from China like fabric, button, shoe sole and tanned cowhide etc.

Shoe sole imported from China accounted for 45 percent of total import for current period, but witnessed constant decline of 39.4 percent and 41 percent for September and August compared to same period of 2005 and decline of 12.34 percent for period of January-September, 2006.
