In September 2006, Thailand's footwear export turnover to US suffered sharp decline of 11.53 percent by generating only $24.7 million compared to same period of 2005.
For first nine months of 2006, export turnover of plastic shoes to US declined by 28.98 percent and leather shoes by 7.16 percent.
Exports to EU witnessed a surge mainly due to increase in exports of leather shoes to Netherlands (38.68 percent), France (17.01 percent), Germany (14.58 percent) and Italy (41.28). Increase is also seen in exports to Australia, Russia and Iran.
During January-September, 2006, Thailand exported $726 million worth of footwear, increase by 1.84 percent compared to same period 2005.
