King Abdullah II Bin El Hussein of Jordan, aged 44 years, and his Queen Rania have come to New Delhi on a three day visit to better the flourishing economic relations between both nations. Country is Jordan's second biggest trade ally.

He requested local investors to benefit from fresh trade opportunities in Jordan. Speaking at a dinner hosted by major Indian industry chambers, he said he awaits long term business relations between both nations.

He said both countries should find out ways of perking up bilateral relations, with pharma, construction, ICT and hospitality being probable areas of investment for Indian companies.

A joint venture named Indo-Jordan Chemicals by fertilizer giant Southern Petrochemicals Industries Corporation is the biggest investment made by a local firm in Jordan. This venture exports 2,50,000 tonnes of phosphoric acid to the country at present.

Bilateral trade, which reached $495 million last year, has been progressing but it is more advantageous to Jordan. It is anticipated that both nations will be inking a bilateral investment protection and promotion treaty.

Local enterprises are searching investment opportunities in garment, chemicals and jewellery sectors of Jordan.
