Textile exports to Arab countries reach $206mn

Exports to Arabian countries shot up 19 percent during January-September 2006 as against same period 2005. Exports reached US $206 million on account of rise in export to Egypt and Jordan.

Industrial exports to Egypt went up 32 percent to $92 million, which include textiles, apparel, leather, chemicals and oil distillation by-products. Industrial exports to Jordan increased 12.5 percent to $96 million in this period, which comprise furniture, textiles and printing paper.

Implementation of QIZ agreements, which enable tax free export of industrial products from Egypt to US depending on procurement of Israeli raw materials, brought growth in exports to Egypt.

In this period, exports to Iraq by 27 local firms reached $2.6 million, which was 29 percent lower than same period last year.
