Textile exports record another year of success

Textile industry in India has continued its success story even during 2006 – 07 as the total exports during the period saw an increase of 15.19 percent compared to previous year.

Total export of fibre during 2005 – 06 was US $105.67 million, which increased to $273.07 million in 2006 – 07, registering an increase of 158.40 percent

In yarns, madeups and fabrics categories, exports soared by 9.17 percent as in 2005 – 06, exports were $1484.52 million and in 2006 – 07, exports come to $1620.71 million.

RMG sector also witnessed sizable growth from $2005.11 million in 2005 – 06 to $2317.32 million in 2006 – 07, with the rise of 15.57 percent.

In carpet, exports were increased by 18.26 percent. In 2005 – 06, handmade, millmade and silk carpets recorded the export of $187.53 million, which touched to the level of $221.78 million in 2006 – 07.

However, jute and handicraft sectors witnessed remarkable decline of 8.11 and 24.86 percent in 2006 – 07 compared to previous year. Jute export was $71.14 million in 2005 – 06 and come down to $65.37 in 2006 – 07. Handicraft export was $146.91 million in 2005 – 06 and $110.39 million in 2006 – 07.

Total textile export in 2005 – 06 was $4000.88 million and this reached $4608.64 million in 2006 – 07.
