Fibre imports soar in volume

In November 2006, textile industry imported about 29,800 tons of fibre for domestic production, a month–on–month rise of 8.1 percent in volume and 0.1 percent decline in value. However, this was an increas of 66.9 percent in volume and 62.8 percent in value over same month 2005.

For first 11 months 2006, imports stood at US $496 million, a year-on-year increase of 61.6 percent and 54.5 percent, respectively.
