In 2006, textile and apparel industry showed positive results in both production and exports.
During this period, textile and apparel produced 575 million square meters of silk fabric at a year-on-year growth of 11.3 percent.
Similarly, industry produced 148.7 million of knitwear at increase of 4.8 percent and 1.212 billion of readymade garments at rise of 14 percent.
The exports turnover stood at US $5.8 billion, a surge of 19.9 percent compared to 2005.
During 2006, the industry faced many difficulties like tough global competition, unstable price of raw material etc. But after review of EU and US export quota imposed on China, industry witnessed boost in exports.
