Silk textile & garment trade prospers in 2006

According to Customs statistics, China's silk textile and apparel exports in January-November 2006 amounted to US $3.126 billion, an increase of 2.16 percent over the same period of the previous year, accounting for 2.34 percent of the total amount $133.471 billion of textile and apparel exports.

Silk textile exports registered $1.152 billion in the period representing year-on-year increase of 13.48 percent and accounting for 2.43 percent of the total amount $47.513 billion of textile exports. Silk garment exports earned $1.974 billion, down 3.47 percent from the same period 2005, and accounted for 2.3 percent of the total amount $85.958 billion of garment exports.

In terms of imports, China's silk textile and apparel trade in January-November 2006 amounted to $146 million, less 7.09 percent from the corresponding period 2005, accounting for 0.89 percent of the total amount $16.4 billion of textile and apparel imports.

Silk textile imports registered $107 million, down 8.51 percent from the same time 2005, accounting for 0.72 percent of the total amount $14.837 silk textile imports; silk garment imports achieved $40 million, 3.08 percent below the same time 2005, accounting for 2.55 percent of the total amount $1.563 billion of silk garment imports.

The imports and exports in January-November 2006 represent that Chinese silk textile and garment trade situation is healthy.
