During the first quarter of 2007, Vietnam's textile and apparel exports turnover reached $1.65 billion, posting year–on–year increase of 30.1 percent, sources from MOI revealed.

The textile and garment industry contributed 24.8 percent of earnings in whole exports turnover, a 25.3 percent rise against same period last year.

Country's textile and garment industry targeted an export turnover of $7.35 billion, means for rest of nine months the figures should be $633 million on average to complete target.

The export figures of footwear showed a rise of 17.6 percent generating $948 million.

The footwear industry is facing many difficulties. To reach a target of $4 billion, industry has to carry out many promotion programs and seek for more markets like North America, South America, Japan, Australia, South Africa and Middle East other than EU.
