Textile trade with Tanzania shows positive development

Trade ties between India and Tanzania have a long history and in recent years, economic relations have been intensified by some concrete steps taken by Governments of both countries.
India has been exporting mineral fuels, oils, machinery/appliances, plastic products including synthetic polymers, cotton fabrics, apparel and clothing, while exports from Tanzania include gemstones, tanning/dyeing extract and raw cotton.
In 2005, India exports minerals and fuels worth US $11.2 million and in 2006, exports reached $56.07 million.
In plastic products category (including synthetic polymers, rubber items etc), exports reached $19.56 million in 2006 from $11.9 million previous year.
Cotton fabrics sees hike of $1.75 million; from $5.2 million in 2005 to $6.95 million in 2006.
In apparel clothing exports, India records a drastic fall from $21.9 million in 2005 to $0.1 million in 2006.
In imports, India imported gemstones worth $1.2 million in 2005 and the purchase increased to $2.08 million in 2006. Tanning/dyeing extract witnessed a little hike as Tanzania exported $1.2 million worth of tanning/dyeing extract in 2005 and $1.35 million in 2006.
Purchase or raw cotton decreased from $4.4 million in 2005 to $1 million in 2006.
