China exported US $3.199 billion worth of silk products in the first half of 2007 with a decrease rate of 1.77 percent compared to the same period last year.
The export value of real silk products amounted to US $1.355 billion with a decrease rate of 6.25 percent. At a rise rate of 1.82 percent, the export value of chemical-fibre silk products was pegged at US $1.843 billion.
The top five provinces exporting silk products are Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Guangdong, Sichuan and Shanghai city. They export silk products to America, Hongkong, the UAE, India, Italy, Japan, Pakistan and Germany. Though export to India, Pakistan and Germany increased to an extent, that of Japan dropped by 26.17 percent.
Around 55 manufacturers buy fresh silkworm cocoons — sold at 16 RMB per kg — from 15 provinces which include Jiangsu, Shandong, Henan, Guangxi, Guangdong and Zhejiang.
