Import and Export Inspection and Quarantine Department of Henan has found from the sampling of cotton imports that in the first six months of 2007, 75 batches of the 128 batches of cotton imports were under weight shortage, totaling up to 386.4 tons.

As a textile giant and cotton-growing province, Henan also imports large quantity of cotton. Till June, this region has imported 128 batches of cotton weighing around 38,020 tons, worth $51.297 millions.

Henan imports cotton mainly from countries like India, Uzbekistan, Hajikeshitan, the USA, Burkina Faso, Chad and Paraguay. India is the largest supplier, accounting for 35.6 percent of the total imports.

Authorities warn the importing enterprises that while paying attention to import quality, they should not overlook weight shortage in cotton imports.
