Thailand-Vietnam trade crosses $1bn in five months

According to a senior official of the Thai Embassy in Ha Noi, Vietnam's trade with Thailand has surpassed $1 billion in the period January to May.
Somkat Saranapanichkul, Trade Counselor informed that this amount shows a 33 percent rise comparing the same period last year.
As per the data provided by the Thai embassy's Office of Commercial Affairs, Vietnamese imports from Thailand touched $830 million in the five months, a year-on-year increase of 27 percent.
To enhance trade between the two countries, the Thai Government has been holding an exhibition of Thai products annually in Vietnam, since 2001. This year's event is to take place during August 19-23 in Ha Noi.
Nearly 120 Thai companies are likely to participate at the expo and display electrical and household appliances, textile and garments, toys, autoparts and accessories, footwear, pharmaceutical and sanitary products, packaging, constructioin materials and hardware.
Thailand is stands second in terms of investment following Singapore in Vietnam among ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) members. About 120 Thai companies have invested $1.4 billion in the country, according to the Thai embassy.
