Recently released statistics reveal that Shenzhen city in Guangdong Province imported around 4458 tons cotton in the first half of this year, an increase of 15.5 percent over the same time last year. However, overall quality of cotton imports showed a down trend with an average of 7.6 percent in general.

It is reported that during this period Shenzhen imported 12 batches of cotton worth US $5.879 million, with US accounting for 50 percent and rest coming from countries like Brazil.

The data shows that the general grade failure rate reached 7.6 percent, an increase of 347.1 percent over the failure rate of the same time last year.

At present, Shenzhen authorities are claiming $143,300 from foreign suppliers, which is worth 2.44 percent of the total import value.
