Cotton imports at Shandong drop considerably

In the first half of this year, cotton imports by Shandong ports reached 5,25,000 tons worth US $730 million, representing a year-on-year drop of 45.2 percent and 44.9 percent, respectively. However, the import price stood at $1,384 per ton on average, an increase of 0.5 percent over the same period last year.

During this period, Shandong imported 2,17,000 tons cotton in the form of processing trade, down 37.9 percent from the said period of prior year, accounting for 41.3 percent of the total imports.

Around 66,000 tons of cotton was imported for general trade, a drop by 78.5 percent. Imports by Bonded Warehouses, Bonded Area showed 143,000 tons and 99,000 tons, a fall of around 10 percent and 30 percent respectively.

As of import sources, trade with India marked 1,56,000 tons, up 24.3 percent and the US registered 1,94,000 tons, down 55.8 percent. Imports from Uzbekistan touched 83,000 tons, a plunge of 44.8 percent compared to the corresponding period of previous year.
