Country's textile imports sky-rocket

According to latest data made available by China Textile Industry Association, in the first half of 2007, China imported US $8.23 billion worth of textiles, up 4.6 percent than the same period last year.

Of this total figure, the import quantity of yarns was 0.937 million tons, up 1.9 percent and worth $2.32 billion. Fabric import also climbed 5.2 percent and stood at $4.37 billion.

While the import value of home textile products increased by 13.1 percent, that of finished textile products went up by 7.2 percent and stood at $1.53 billion.

The total import value of China's clothing sector stood at $840 million, up 4.8 percent. Of this aggregate, import of knitted garments was valued at $310 million, up 1.7 percent; import of tatting clothing went up 6.1 percent and was worth $370 million.

The import quantity of knitwear and tatting clothes was 270 million pieces, down 16.7 percent; the average import unit price was $2.51 a set, which went up by 25 percent.

The import values of wool clothes, chemical-fibre clothes, cotton clothes and leather garments increased by 31 percent, 7 percent, 3.7 percent and 37 percent respectively. However, the import value of silk clothes went down by 18.5 percent.
