According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) statistics, in September 2007, Vietnam earned US$300 million from footwear exports, representing a year–on–year rise of 24.5 percent.

From January to September this year, the export figures touched $2.96 billion, up 13.1 percent compared to same period previous year.

According to a MOIT official, Vietnam is now diverting its focus from the EU, which has been the biggest importer of its footwear for years. The country is now planning to increase its market share in North America, Japan, Eastern Europe and Taiwan and produce high quality products to prevent dumping cases.
