MOIT sets ambitious export target for 2008

Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) released a report at a meeting chaired by Deputy Minister Nguyen Thanh Bien, sketching plans for exports target of 2008. This shows that the country is aiming for a very ambitious growth.

According to the plan, the country is expects to earn US $58.6 billion from exports, up 22 percent over 2007. This will guarantee 8 percent GDP growth as well as help reduce trade deficit for the whole country.

Among all the products, textile and apparel exports is expected to remain on the top, with total anticipated turnover of $9.45 billion, followed by crude oil at $7.74 billion, footwear for over $5 billion.

In the first nine months 2007, the country generated $35.2 billion, a year–on–year rise of 19.4 percent. The MOIT anticipates fetching around $12.9 billion in the last quarter so as to fulfill the target of $48.1 billion in 2007.
