Govt to lift import limits on Chinese textiles

Taiwan has decided to lift import limits on Chinese clothes. A total of around 79 categories of products from China mainland will not be restricted from entering Taiwan.

Of the total group, 75 belong to the textile and clothing products like men suits, women apparels, boy's cotton underwear and dustcoat. Not only the cheap clothings but also the top-quality international brand clothes manufactured in China can be exported to Taiwan.

Experts believe that many European brands are planning to enter Taiwan market by taking advantage of this new policy. However, this has worried merchants in the country who deal in European famous brands, and are actively planning new trade strategies.

After its WTO accession in 2002, Taiwan had to permit import of Chinese products to abide by WTO regulations. Again, the country is allowing Chinese imports as the US and EU are dissatisfied with limits imposed on Chinese products.
